About the Course

Course Outline


Throughout the course, students will explore and understand the responsibility of managing different functions of a business. This includes accounting, marketing, information and communication technology, financial management, human resources, and production.


Prerequisite: None



Module 1 Business Basics and Economics

Guiding Question: What are the business basics I should know?


In this module, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of business. They will learn about the role of a business, leadership styles and basic economics. Students will understand the meaning of working in a competitive environment and how it affects Canada's global trade. They will also learn about the role and impact of tariffs. 


Module 2 Overview: Business Functions

Guiding Question: How do I utilize business functions to build my venture?


In this module students will learn about the main functions of a business they will have to understand before launching and leading your business. Students will learn about accounting and financial statements, marketing, the importance of operations in a business, and the human resources function. 


Module 3 Overview: Entrepreneurship: Mindset to Venture

Guiding Question: Do I have what it takes to a an entrepreneur?


In this module, students will look at entrepreneurship and what skills are required to be a successful entrepreneur.  They will learn about the importance of having a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset in business, as well as in life. Students will also learn how indigenous entrepreneurs add to the economy with sustainable products. They will also research successful Canadian and global entrepreneurs.


Module 4 Overview: Defining Your Venture

Guiding Question:What do I need to do before launching my venture?


In this module, students will explore the steps required start to develop their venture, which will include their business plan, creating their logo, mission statement and value proposition. Students will also refine their ideas on their marketing strategy and advertising campaigns, as well as look at their operational and management requirements....as well as where the money is going to come from.


Module 5 Overview: Career Skills

Guiding Question:How can the skills I have learned be used in different careers, as well as in life?


In this module students will learn about careers focused on the skills they have developed throughout this course. Students will also learn how the skills they have learned can be applied to a variety of careers.
